ExpoPlatform provided a seamless experience in pivoting our flagship ILTM event to the virtual space. The platform's hosted-buyer solutions and AI matchmaking abilities added a new dimension of online interactions and networking to the event, creating a richer, more connected experience for the participants. As a result, the ILTM Virtual World Tour, which was a nine days, across three weeks and three regions event, was highly praised by our exhibitors and attendees. The ILTM World Tour is a series of leading luxury travel events that shines light on the world's most desirable destinations, luxurious accommodations, and unique travel experiences. Under the title “ILTM World Tour – Virtual access all areas”, the organisers envisioned a virtual event to unite the community of buyers and suppliers of luxury travel and compensate for the postponed ILTM events.
Challenges faced by the organisers
The restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic caused a major setback to the global luxury travel industry. Owing to such unprecedented events, the organisers had to adapt their business strategies and think of new ways to connect their audiences. One major hurdle was catering to an audience that was spread across 3 different geographies: Asia-Pacific, EMEA, and the Americas. Building an online space for the global luxury travel brands to meet the audience & showcase their products was the need of the hour.The luxury event’s audience is a healthy mix of local buyers located in these geographies. The organisers were keen on providing ample opportunities to their suppliers to not only explore and connect with buyers from their core markets, but also discover new ones. A three-week time frame was decided for the three virtual events in these geographies. The organisers required a scalable platform that could realise their vision by offering valuable opportunities for business and networking within all the different time zones.
The organising team wanted the virtual event to be more about the connections attendees make, rather than a list of meetings and conference sessions. This required tweaking the platform and introducing new functionalities for sessions that aren’t just engaging, but full of networking opportunities
